That lovely feeling when someone in the world that you have never met likes your work and blogs about it. Big smile.

"Takeaway is anything but ordinary" in these folded sheet metal beauties from Established & Sons.
"In general, the question of what’s inside a box is more intriguing than the box itself. But the Takeaway turns this presupposition inside out"

Restaurants occasionally hit the spot with a fresh web presence. These important marketing and information tools are sometimes as enjoyable as the food. Three of my local favourite food sites: bills, Guzman y Gomez and the Winery by Gazebo. Yummy.

I'm not. Contrary to the earlier forecasts Sydney is having the best holiday weather we could ask for. Sunny days, calm afternoons, breezy evenings. Who needs a white Christmas - the beaches can't sing in the snow.

I've probably pushed hundreds of these over a thousand times (why do we tend to smack them multiple times?) but only recently learnt that Nielsen Design Associates are responsible for the common robust icons (founder Carl Nielsen presented me with a professional development scholarship in 3rd year of my industrial design bachelor at UTS - I should have known this earlier).
“In the early 1980s Sydney consultants Nielsen Design Associates were asked to redesign the device. The new unit was made from cast aluminium with vandal-proof fixings. The large magnetic button (tested to withstand millions of pushes) is easy to find and push. A Braille arrow on the vibrating plate indicates the direction to cross.”
Photo from former Powerhouse photographer, Andrew Frolows, to accompany this article explaining ‘push button for traffic signals’. Perhaps Nielsen can have a 2010 revamp with an LED indicator to signal a received request to cross - already found in Japan. Saves the extra reassurance smacks..
